LiveLoveLau Scholarship Fund Eligibility

Purpose: LiveLoveLau foundation was created in 2013 to provide financial assistance to college-bound students with a deceased parent. The organization was founded by Stephanie Lau, who lost her father at 19 due to a tragic accident. This scholarship is in memory of Theodore Raymond Lau.

Terms of Application:
Scholarships may be used to attend an accredited  four-year college, or university located in the United States. LiveLoveLau Scholarship are awarded for one academic year only. Each recipient must reapply every year and complete a new application form. To qualify for a renewal scholarship, prior award winners must participate in a LiveLoveLau fundraising benefit or event. A required essay question will ask for details on this activity. Previous winners are not guaranteed selection for another year. Funds are available for undergraduate study.

 

Eligibility:
Students applying for scholarships from the LiveLoveLau Scholarship Fund must meet the following criteria:

  1. Student must have lost a parent to a tragic or sudden death. (proper documentation or references will be required)
  2. Student may not be older than 22 years of age
  3. Student must live in either California or Hawaii.
  4. Student must have a high school diploma.
  5. Student must have a minimum GPA of 3.0.
  6. Student must be a legal resident of the United States.
  7. Student must be accepted as a full-time enrollee in an undergraduate program at four-year accredited college or university. At this time, the LiveLoveLau is not authorized to provide scholarships for graduate programs.

Materials:

  1. submission of transcript.
  2. submission of resumesubmission of letters of recommendation
  3. submission of completed application form and essays
  4. submission of your SAR (student aid report) from your free FAFSA application

** The Student Aid Report (SAR) summarizes the information included in the FAFSA. The SAR will also indicate Pell Grant eligibility, if any, and the Expected Family Contribution (EFC). The student will receive a copy of your SAR four to six weeks after the FAFSA has been filed. The student should review the SAR and correct any errors on part 2. If the Processor was able to calculate an EFC, the student will be able to submit the SAR to the FAO for corrections (in most cases). If an EFC was not calculated, the student will need to send the corrections to the Processor. It is advised that the student keep a photocopy of the SAR for their records. To request a duplicate copy of a SAR, the student would need to call 1-800-433-3243.

Due to the high volume of applicants, we cannot notify each individual student of our decisions. Winners will be posted on our website (www.livelovelau.org) by mid-May of each year and notified by phone. Checks are paid directly to the college or university, not to the winners themselves.

Award components: LiveLoveLau foundation will select three (3) recipients, each of whom will receive an academic scholarship per the below:

  • First Place: $5,000 scholarship
  • Second Place: $2,000 scholarship
  • Third Place: $1,000 scholarship
